The regular meeting of the Mozarkite Society of Lincoln Inc. was held Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Colton’s Steak House and Grill, 4101 West Broadway Blvd. Sedalia, MO 65301.
President Pam Radu called the meeting to order. There were 11 members and 1 guest present.
The minutes for the August meeting were unavailable due to issues with the Secretary’s computer but will be mailed soon.
The Treasurer’s Report was presented verbally with totals for the Rock Show and the sale of Mozarkite.
Old Business
The By-Laws were discussed. Under the section for the Scholarship, a drastic change was made to include Pettis County for applicants for the scholarship. The Harms had established the scholarship for Benton County students since that’s where Mozarkite was originally found. Including Pettis County schools would not follow the intent of the Society’s founders. Also, on a more practical note, Pettis County students have a greater variety of scholarships available to them than the Benton County students. Pam explained Bradley had been greatly impressed with the geology teacher at Smith Cotton and wanted to be able to offer financial help to students of that school. The by-laws committee will discuss this issue further before they will be presented again for consideration.
New Business
Show News: Marvin Dahmer said he would not be coming to our show in the future. He explained it was getting to be too difficult to bring all of his products from Wichita. We had a new vendor this year who was a visitor last year. She and 5 other vendors did not stay for the Show on Sunday. Some vendors expressed they were somewhat confused about how we charged. We reiterated that we charge by the number of tables a vendor sets up, i.e., 1-3 tables, $25; 4-6 tables, $35; and 7 tables or more, $40. There were some potential visitors who said they didn’t see flyers about the Show and only found out about it the day before the Show on Facebook. Karl had posted flyers in some of Cole Camp’s businesses.
Karl reported Pat Monahan called to say he was selling his farm which had a generous deposit of arrowheads in the creek bed and invited members to contact him about hunting for them before the sale of his farm. He also said he’d been contacted about having Ruth Albert’s name removed from our Facebook account. A discussion ensued explaining that no current members of the Society have access to the old Facebook accounts. Kelly expressed concern that some of the photos on the old account(s) were preventing us from being considered for grants from the county. Mike Connely made a motion, seconded by Diane, we put a disclaimer on our website stating the only Facebook account supported by the Mozarkite Society of Lincoln, Inc. is Mozarkite Society - Official. Any other Facebook accounts with Mozarkite in the name are unauthorized. Motion passed unanimously.
Lee expressed concern that while getting together as a group for dinner was enjoyable, she worried new, or potential members might stop trying to come if we aren’t where our literature states we meet: the First Christian Church at 7pm.
It was agreed by the members we’d not meet at Colton’s again. Food and service were fine, but they added charges to our bill we were unaware of beforehand.
Dave and Lee volunteered to bring refreshments to the October meeting at the church.
There being no further business to bring before the members, the meeting was adjourned.
